UWP Breakdown
- Starport A — excellent; shipyards build and repair all vessels including jump-capable starships. Refined fuel available.
- Size 6 — ~9,600 km diameter, roughly 0.6G (Low Gravity); long-term residents risk bone/muscle degradation.
- Atmosphere 2 — Very Thin, Tainted. Low pressure (needs a respirator) and a taint (needs a filter mask) to survive on the surface.
- Hydrographics 3 — ~30% surface liquid water.
- Population 5 — moderate; hundreds of thousands (100,000–999,999).
- Government 1 — Company/Corporation. A managerial elite rules; most residents are employees or dependents of the ruling entities.
- Law Level 4 — moderate. Light assault weapons and SMGs prohibited; sidearms and blades are legal in practice. Overt body armour or heavier weapons (e.g. shotguns) draw security attention.
- Tech Level B — TL 11 (Early Stellar): supports Jump-2 and first true AIs.
The World vs. the Highport
The planet itself is unappealing and borderline habitable — thin tainted air, low gravity, little water. Its economy exists almost entirely to support the Imperial military and Scout bases; nearly everything on-world is owned by an Imperial service or a megacorporation.
- Highport: large, well-equipped, vibrant “boomtown” energy — a crossroads for travellers entering Charted Space. Most visitors never go planetside. Independent spacers grumble that it’s “soulless” despite the efficiency.
- Venues: shops, bars, restaurants, squash courts, prize-fighting arenas.
- Downport: exists, but the bad atmosphere and thin water mean commercial travellers rarely bother.
Government, Society & Security
- On-world life is dominated by corporate and military interests, under heavy Imperial oversight (Flammarion is a strategic Imperial link).
- Highport security is the Imperial starport authority.
- On the world, the Public Order Commission (POC) handles law enforcement.
- Weapons are checked at most doors; heavier weapons or overt body armour draw security attention.
IISS & Navy Presence
Flammarion is heavily militarized for the region:
- Imperial Navy base — small, supporting patrol ships and destroyers.
- IISS Way Station — significant Scout base serving the X-boat route to the Five Sisters; used for training, comms, survey, and likely covert surveillance toward the Sword Worlds.
- Detached Duty Branch — hosts the Detached Duty office that allocates decommissioned scout/couriers to retired scouts.
System Bodies & Refuelling
- Single F8 V star.
- No gas giants — no wilderness skim here; ships buy refined fuel at the highport/downport. (Wilderness refuelling resumes at 567-908.)
